Avis Industrial Corporation, a privately-held company with nine subsidiaries throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, has announced the acquisition of The Harris Waste Management Group, Inc. Harris has been a leader in the recycling industry for over 100 years and manufactures both ferrous and nonferrous processing equipment. Harris’ products include a diverse line of balers, shears and shredders. Manufacturing facilities for Harris are located in Baxley and Cordele, Georgia, with additional engineering and sales offices in San Antonio, Texas, and the United Kingdom.
Leland E. Boren, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Avis Industrial, stated, “The Harris name has a strong legacy in the recycling industry, and we want to build on that tradition by manufacturing quality products, offering exceptional customer service, while at the same time focusing on innovation and new product development.” Boren said he anticipates no immediate changes in the organization at Harris, including the Harris distributor network. He did add that with American Baler, a subsidiary of Avis since 1979, “this is an ideal time to find synergies and capitalize on the combined strength of both companies in the baler industry.”
Kenneth Galason, President of Harris, added, “We are excited to be joining the Avis Industrial Corporation group of companies. The leadership at Avis has vast experience in manufacturing which we believe will only add to the success of Harris going forward.”
